Formalities

Passport/Visa :

You need a valid passport and a visa to enter the country. The visa costs 275 FF.
A business visa is only delivered on presentation of an invitation from a local partner. It costs 475 FF and takes about 5 days to come through.
If ever you have to stay longer in the country than you expected, you must prolong your visa via the Ministry of the Interior (UVIR, Ul. Polrovka 42, tel 095 207 24 94).
We advise expatriates to register with their embassies.

Customs :

Adults over 16 years old can import : 250 cigarettes or 250 grammes of tobacco, 1/2 litre of alcohol, 1 liter of wine, perfume or eau de toilette for personal use only.

It is forbidden to import anti-Soviet propaganda, living animals (you need a special permit), arms, drugs, fruit and vegetables.

It is forbidden to export arms, ammunition, precious metal (gold, silver), some jewels and works of art and furs unless they were declared on entering the country as personal effects.

Currency  :

You can import any amount of currency so long as you declare it, except for roubles (apart from travellers cheques).
You are allowed to export currency also, except for roubles (apart from travellers cheques)
