City Japan

In Tokyo and the main towns :
1) vast network of public transport (to be avoided at rush hours between 7 and 9 am and 5 and 7 pm).
2) electric railway : minimum price 120 yen
3) underground : you can cross Tokyo for 140 yen. The ticket is collected by a controller on arrival
4) bus : between the big towns.
If you want to hire a car you have to be able to read Japanese as all the road signs are written in Japanese. It is very difficult to find parking places in central Tokyo so it is not advisable to use a car, it is much better to use public transport.

Tokyo : Tokyo is 'a must', it stretches for 500 kms all around the Emperor's Palace. The town looks like 1000 villages grouped together in which are concealed tiny ancient alleyways. Tokyo means "the big mandarine", a copy of New York's "big apple". It is a masterpiece of exoticism without any particular touristic highlight or exceptional monument. Interesting walks are around the central station in Tokyo and in the Marunouchi district which is the business centre of the town. Don't miss visiting the area around the Imperial Palace with the Edo Castle (Tokugawa dynasty) and the Garden of the East which is open between 9 am and 3 pm (closed Monday and Friday).
