France has an excellent health service, which was
created at the end of the 2nd World War, known as
the "Sécurité Sociale". This system
guarantees either free or reimbursed basic medical
treatment in a hospital, visits to a general
practitioner and prescribed medicines.
This health insurance cover can be completed by a
complementary insurance which takes in charge the
costs which are eventually not covered by the
Sécurité Sociale. There are various
companies offering this service.
The latest annual
report from the World Heath Organization rated
France as the country in the world where the
medical care is the best, before Italy,
St Marino and Andorra.
